Arena Final, 13 Dec 2014

PRESCOT SC competed in the Division One final of the National Arena League North West. The final consisted of the top six of 17 teams in the division, with the top three earning promotion to the Premier division.

The calibre of opposition was underlined by the presence of Isle of Man, Swim Trafford, Carlisle Aquatics, Leyland Barracudas and Wigan as the opposition.

This was Prescot’s first time in the promotion final but the performance of the team showed no sign of nerves with highly competitive racing from the start to finish.

.
With such a fantastic performance from the whole squad it would be hard to single out individuals but club captain, Alex Dunk led from the front with three first places from as many races and Charlotte Dodson following on from her great start to the year with some fantastic individual and team performances.

The support and noise made by the parents and other team members made for a fantastic atmosphere and earned the club the President’s trophy for the best turned out and supported club.

The final result leaves things a little in the balance because Prescot earned a much deserved joint third place with Leyland, from Isle of Man who took top spot and Swim Trafford in second. The decision on third place promotion will have to wait on results from the premier division.

Arena Gala 2, 8 Nov 2014

An epic performance on Saturday night saw Prescot storm into their first ever National League First Division final.

At some points during the evening the Prescot swimmers dominated proceedings - all of them swam out of their skins and we won what looked like on paper a very tough gala.

Alex Dunk once again got 3 wins despite not having trained all week due to a field trip, Elizabeth Hurst won both the 15 & under and the Open 100m Backstroke events. Emma Farrugia got a win as did Neil Wylie, Cameron Dunk, Ryan Tarbuck, Finley Hampson and Dan Cheshire.

The 15 & under boys (consisting of Finley Hampson, Neil Wylie, Cameron Dunk and Daniel Clark) won  both of their relay events again and the Open girls (Chloe Middleham, Courtney Dodson, Charlotte Dodson, Elizabeth Hurst - Medley and Katherine Cheshire - Freestyle) matched them in their 2 relays. The other win was registered by the Boys Open Medley Relay team (Jake Simm, Daniel Cheshire, Tom Hughes and Alex Dunk).

Final Scores: 1st: Prescot (195 points), 2nd: Leyland Barracudas "A" (191), 3rd: Horwich LC (184), 4th: Everton SA (174), 5th: Halton (166), 6th: Hoylake (138)

Squad: Jessica Berry, Charlotte Clark, Jessica Deeley, Emily Fairhurst, Emma Farrugia, Joe Burns, Ryan Clarke, Ryan Tarbuck, Adam Cunningham, Ellis Kenny, Ellena Daly, Elizabeth Dowding, India Hurst, Georgia Simm, Peter Hill, Ryan Puxley, Sam Puxley, Katherine Cheshire, Charlotte Dodson, Jessica Hardman, Elizabeth Hurst, Emily Lowrie, Daniel Clark, Cameron Dunk, Finley Hampson, Neil Wylie, Courtney Dodson, Chloe Middleham, Daniel Cheshire, Alex Dunk, Tom Hughes, Jake Simm.

We have finished in 4th position in the table so have one of the centre lanes for the final in Horwich on the 13th December.

M&D Gala 1, 1 Nov 2014

It was hard going at the first Merseyside & District gala of the season. The league has been brought up to strength again with the promotion of Halton back to the first division and we were short of several swimmers due to holiday and illness.

First places were gained by Finley Hampson in the 50m Breaststroke, Jessica Deeley (50m Backstroke & 25m Butterfly), Elizabeth Hurst & Daniel Clark (50m Backstroke), Charlotte Dodson & Neil Wylie (50m Butterfly), Cameron Dunk (50m Freestyle), Dan Cheshire (100m Breaststroke) and Jake Simm (100m Backstroke & a very close call for 1st/2nd in the 100m Freestyle).

The 15 & under boys only! got a 1st and a 2nd in their relays so I not going to mention them this week! The Mens Open Relay team did do the double however.

Amelia Chipchase, Jack Greenhalgh and Michael Brussels made their debuts for Prescot so many congratulations to them.

Final Scores: 1st: Everton SA (172 points), 2nd Halton (165), 3rd: Crosby (160), 4th: Garston (158), 5th Prescot (144)

Arena, 11 Oct 2014

Missing seven regulars a smaller but perfectly formed Prescot team descended on Irlam and Cadishead Leisure Centre for this seasons first Arena League gala.

With so many missing some swimmers had to do extra swims to fill the spaces and the standout performer for Prescot was Charlotte Dodson who swam 7 events, and did not finish out of the top 3 in any of them winning 2 events, 2nd in 3 and 3rd in the remaining 2.

For the boys Alex Dunk maintained his dominance in the division registering 3 wins.

Other winners were Elizabeth Hurst, Emma Farrugia (possibly twice - it was close!) and Matthew Lamb.

The 15 & under boys (this time consisting of Matthew Lamb. Neil Wylie, Cameron Dunk and Daniel Clark) did yet another relay double winning both events and the 15 & under girls (Amy Johnson, Jessica Hardman, Charlotte Dodson and Katherine Cheshire) matched them this time in the Medley relay.

We finished on 191 points in 3rd place which is a very healthy place to be in and we will go to the next round on the 8th November (Worsley, 5pm warm up) in high spirits.

1st: Leyland Barracudas "A" (217 points), 2nd: Halton (198), 3rd: Prescot (191), 4th: COSACSS (189), 5th: Hoylake (131), 6th: Oswestry Otters (117)
